The Canadian economic delegation headed by Mr. Philippe Roy, Mayor of the Town of Mount Royal in Quebec visited Dr. Joseph Torbey, Chairman of the Association of Banks in Lebanon last week. Discussions centered on possible ways to boost the trade activities between the two countries.
Among the delegation members were Mr. Joseph Daoura, lawyer and Councillor of the Mayor, Mr. Mohammad Ali, Councellor and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Egypt, Lebanon and Sudan, Ms. Nathalie Nercessian, Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Lebanon, Mr. William Habib as well as several Lebanese-Canadian business men active in the fields of technology, food, and real estate development and others.
The Canadian delegation was welcomed by Dr. Torbey who emphasized the readiness of Lebanese banks to finance trade activities, backed by the strong ties that bind the two countries. Was also highlighted the role of the private sector, the chambers of commerce and the Canadian embassy to boost trade activities, which remain low, especially that the Lebanese community in Canada is actively present in vital economic, social and political sectors.
زار وفد اقتصادي كندي رفيع برئاسة عمدة مدينة مونرويال - كيبيك السيد فيليب روي نهار الاثنين 9 أيار 2016 رئيس جمعية مصارف لبنان الدكتور جوزف طربيه حيث تم البحث في كيفية تفعيل التمويل التجاري بين البلدين.
وقد ضم الوفد المحامي والمستشار لعمدة مدينة مونرويال – كيبيك الأستاذ جوزف دورة، والمستشار والمفوض التجاري في السفارة الكندية في مصر ولبنان السودان السيد محمد علي، والمفوضة التجارية في السفارة الكندية في لبنان السيدة نتالي نرسيسيان، والسيد ويليام حبيب، الى وفد لبناني-كندي ضم رؤساء شركات في مجالات التكنولوجيا والمواد الغذائية والتطوير العقاري وغيرها.
تمحور هذا اللقاء حول العلاقات اللبنانية الكندية عامة، والتجارية خاصة.
وقد لاقى الوفد الكندي ترحيباً من الدكتور طربيه، الذي أكّد على جهوزية المصارف اللبنانية لتمويل التجارة اللبنانية الكندية سيما أن الروابط التي تربط اللبنانيين والكنديين وثيقة ومتينة لأن اللبنانيين الموجودين في كندا لا يزالون على علاقات وثيقة مع الوطن الام. و دار النقاش أيضاً حول أهمية القطاع الخاص في تفعيل التبادل التجاري الذي لا يزال خجولاً عامةً، خاصةً في ظل الحضور الفاعل للجالية اللبنانية في كندا في كافة القطاعات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية الحيوية. إضافة الى دور غرف التجارة بالتعاون مع السفارة الكندية من أجل تفعيل التبادل التجاري.
