NNA - Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil, met on Tuesday with a delegation representing the Association of Banks in Lebanon, headed by Dr. Joseph Tarabay, who expressed hope that a new Lebanese cabinet would see the light soon.
"We hope that the cabinet formation process will reflect the Lebanese democracy that had been witnessed in legislative elections because that would benefit the economic situation as a whole, not only the banking sector," Tarabay said in the wake of his meeting with Bassil.
"We have confirmed to the international markets that the Lebanese banking sector is not under any political influence; we work in 33 countries outside Lebanon, and we have proven to fully respect international laws," he added.
Tarabay also briefed Minister Bassil on the association's contacts with international financial centers, both American and European, which all fall in the best interest of the Lebanese banking sector.
For his part, Bassil encouraged the association members to keep him posted on the latest developments pertaining to the banking sector.
"He stressed that the Lebanese banking sector has managed within the last ten years to preserve itself, especially in light of its continued adherence to the international banking laws and its respect for international sanctions," Tarabay said as quoting Bassil.
